We will be preserving the Harvest!
We have worked hard in the garden all season, and now the equinox is upon us. The season is turning and it's time to think about winter. We will build a cold frame that will allow us to extend our growing season far beyond the frost-maybe even all winter! We will discuss principles and various approaches to season-extending structures.
In the kitchen we'll be busy canning. We will cover the basics-cucumber pickles and tomato sauce, but also some more exotic preserves such as pickled nasturtium buds and zucchini relish. We'll dry tomatoes to preserve as intense morsels in our winter cooking, then finish up with a fine harvest meal.
